G' concept, please add me in. If everyone do a bit together, all of us will benefit enormously. We will be a chain of writers.

Even when one is "properly" published, unless by "properly" you mean one of the major presses, retailers don't seem to be interested. Too many books of all kinds on the market, and just not enough shelf space. In a way I don't blame bookstore owners -- as it is, 85% of books in a bookstore sell less than two copies. Not good odds. I'm hoping I can make enough of a name online that eventually stores will come to me. I have about as much chance of that as ending all wars, but one can still hope.

I self-published some books and got really brave at asking. But the answer was always the same, from book stores, libraries, even little local gift shops in the mall. They get too many people offering self-published books, and no thankyou, they don't want to look and don't want a free sample. I stopped asking. But maybe if I get "properly" published one day... Yes, I'll try to be brave.

Thank you for this great advice. I am in the beginning process of writing all of this material for the two books that We The Peepres is publishing. While I have done all of this media promotion for the non-profit I worked for in a previous profession, it is a bit different now writing it for books. Thanks so much!
